India Price is Right: Podcast Edition

1 3 mins 1

II love podcasts because I love authentic, unfiltered conversations. A lot of what I love about podcasts is what I love about my job: I like the stories, the explanations, the understanding behind why something is the way it is (plus, I’m inherently nosy). But before quarantine, I found listening to podcasts frustrating. Most of the ones I gravitate towards are an hour or longer, which meant a lot of stop/start in between tube journeys, short runs or taxi rides. As I mentioned last week, I’ve rediscovered a love for long walks – and podcasts are firmly back in my life. Here, I’ve rounded up 4 that I’m loving right now.

  1. The Tim Ferriss Show

If you haven’t listened to The Tim Ferriss Show yet, please do. It’s insightful, impactful and you’ll always have a lot of takeaways. Tim is an incredible interviewer, getting right into the very specific tactics, routines, tools and habits of some of the world’s greatest leaders and performers. It covers anything from their morning routine to their favourite book, time management tricks to exercise habits and so much more. Some of my favourites: Dr. Jane Goodall, Whitney Wolfe Herd, Karlie Kloss and I love his solo shows, too. With 300+ episodes out, there genuinely is something for everyone.

  1. Second Life

Second Life has long been one of my favourite podcasts and I recommend it to everyone. It’s all about powerful women’s careers and how they’ve pivoted at a certain point to embark on their second life, whether that’s a second career, a side gig that turns into something bigger or motherhood. Second Life is hosted by Hillary Kerr, the founder of Who What Wear and MyDomaine, so she knows a thing or two about entrepreneurship and career paths. Some of my favourites: Reese Witherspoon, Eva Chen and J.Lo. What a lineup!

  1. Some Good Mavericks

Obviously, this list couldn’t be complete without a mention of everyone’s favourite podcast, our very own Some Good Mavericks – which is genuinely the podcast I turn to when I need to feel uplifted and inspired. Charlie (himself one of the most insightful people I am lucky enough to know) talks to an amazing array of people from many walks of life who have done something truly unusual and gone against the grain. Some of my favourites: Valentine Warner, Peter Buchanan-Smith and Sir William Gladstone.

  1. More Than One Thing

More Than One Thing is a relatively new podcast, hosted by Athena Calderone (@eyeswoon on Instagram) who’s best-known as an author and interior designer. Her podcast is – shock horror, I like a very specific type of podcast – all about diving deep into the journey that her interviewees have taken to get to where they are. The premise is that the highlight reel of social media makes everything appear perfect, but in actual fact there’s a whole lot of nit and grit that goes into successful people becoming successful. I especially loved her interview with Jenna Lyons.

Clap for appreciation
