Jeanette Orrell received the Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award in 2017, which allowed her to travel to Japan and learn techniques of katazome, shibori and indigo dyeing. Here she guides us through the beautifully slow process which is done with skill and care. Much of her work explores ideas of domesticity, femininity, and gender roles.

Jeanette Orrell was born in Leigh, Lancashire in 1964. She studied ceramics and graduated from Camberwell School of Art in 1985. After graduation, she travelled between London, Japan, and Greece. She is currently based in North Wales. She received an Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award in 2017, allowing her to travel to Japan and learn techniques of katazome, shibori and indigo dyeing. Much of her work explores “ideas”, such as domesticity, femininity, or gender roles.
